Trusted Tulsa County, Oklahoma, AttorneyAttorney Richard E. Comfort brings a lifetime of experience to every case he handles. Throughout his career, his dedication to the law and to his clients has stood out. He offers thoughtful, experienced answers to his clients, and he whole-heartedly believes in the importance of using available technologies like email, facsimile, and electronic document filing in order to provide cost-effective solutions to legal problems. He began his career as a lawyer in 1970, running a private law firm, and diligently representing his clients. In 1974, he was appointed as a Special Judge for the 14th Judicial District, which covers Tulsa and Pawnee counties. In this position, he gained firsthand knowledge of the mindset of the judges who preside over the cases he handles now. After serving in that capacity for four years, he became a District Judge. In that position, Richard E. Comfort chaired a joint committee of the Tulsa County Bar and the judges of the Fourteenth Judicial District to restructure the jury selection and summoning processes of Tulsa County. The restructured system resulted in a more representative cross-section of jurors available for jury panels and also diminished the hardship on individual jurors by making their length of service shorter. In recognition for his efforts and his dedication, he was named Outstanding State Trial Judge in the State of Oklahoma by the Oklahoma Trial Lawyers Association. In 1981, Mr. Comfort returned to the practice of law, working for one of the largest business and commercial law firms in Oklahoma. His time at a large law firm provided him with even more familiarity with the needs of companies in Tulsa and the surrounding areas, and gave him the impetus to found his own commercial litigation firm in 1986. In 1987, he became interested in alternative dispute resolution and went to work as a mediator and arbitrator for U.S. Arbitration and Mediation, handling cases in Tulsa and eastern Oklahoma. In that position, he facilitated settlement of hundreds of matters through mediation, arbitration, settlement conferences, mini-trials, and other alternative dispute resolution (ADR) techniques. In 1992, Richard E. Comfort returned to small-firm private practice, and founded his current firm, gathering up his years of knowledge and experience to assist people by providing legal guidance, litigation assistance, mediation or arbitration in a wide range of matters, including:
